Dr. Mohammed Arifuddin is born in Hyderabad, India on May 29, 1971. After completion of his schooling education he received his B.Sc with biology, physics and chemistry as main subject from Osmania University, in 1992. He received his M.Sc degree in chemistry (specialization organic chemistry) in 1995 from Osmania university.Dr. Arif joined the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderbad, India as a project assistant under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Kamal, on DST-Ranbaxy colaboratory project “Synthesis of Anticancer agents”. He received senior research Fellowship award (1998) from CSIR, New Delhi.

He received his Ph.D degree in Chemistry in January 2003, on the "Development of Methodologies for the Opening of Oxiranes; Regeneration of Carbonyl Compounds and Synthesis of New Podophyllotoxin Congeners as Anticancer Agents". During his Ph.D he has worked on various aspects of synthetic and medicinal chemistry. He has been Involved in the synthesis of new analogous of Podophyllotoxin as DNA Topoisomerase II Inhibitors and in developing efficient strategies for the synthesis of biologically active natural products like DNA-binding pyrrolobenzodiazepine antitumour antibiotics. He also involved in the development of various methodologies for the deprotection of C=N derivatives, reduction of azides to amines and enantioselective synthesis of azidoalcohols via epoxide ring opening. This training has given him a sound knowledge to undertake research problems of contemporary interest involving synthetic organic chemistry.

Dr Arif has worked as research associate for one year (2003-2004) in the Department of Chemistry, Institute of Catalysis Science and Technology , Technion City, Haifa 3200, Israel, under the Supervision of Dr. Ehud Keinan in the area of Medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry (Synthesis of Cucurbuturil). He also completed one year postdoctoral research at Centre de Biophysique Molecularie, CNRS, Orleans, France, (November 2001-November 2002) under the supervision of Dr. Midoux Patrick in the area of Synthesis and development of Polyplexes (Cationic Polymers) as vectors for gene Delivery. At present Dr. Arif working as Laboratory Facilitation Manager. at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER, Hyderabad), Balanagar, Hyderabad, India Dr. Arif main interest of research is in the area of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Supramolecular Chemistry and Development of New Methodology in Organic synthesis.
