The Examination Cell is responsible for the coordination and management of all centrally scheduled examinations and the publication of results.

The duties of the Examination Office includes
  • the printing, secure storage and distribution of examination material.
  • the construction of the examination timetable for the University.
  • examination supervisor allocation.
  • the organisation of equity examinations for students with disabilities, medical conditions or religious reasons.
The Examinations cell also manages the institute grading system, the student academic status appeals process and the printing of academic transcripts for Masters students.

Rules & Regulations


Examination Period:
The Academic Calendar comprises

Examinations may be scheduled on any day or evening during the two-week examination period, with the exception of Sundays. Students should not make commitments to any other activities over this period.
Students may be required to sit back-to-back examinations but shall not be made to take more than two examinations per day.

Time Table:
A final timetable is published 4 weeks prior to the examination period with venue allocations. Time Table will also be placed on all the notice-boards. Although examination timetable information will aslo be provided over the Email, students may contact the Examination In-charge for any clarifications.

Attendance:
All students are required to attend every lecture and practical class during the semester provided that in the case of late registration, sickness and other contingencies, the attendance required will be a minimum of 75% of the classes actually held.

Leave 
  • a student is entitled a maximum of 45 days leave in addition to general holidays during the three semester of their stay at the institute and not be entitled for any other vacation such as summer, winter etc.
  • 10 days of medical leave every year besides the 45 days leave can be granted by the Head of the Department.
  • Women student shall be entitled to 3 months maternity leave with scholarship in addition to the 30 days leave once during their tenure.
  • Leave with scholarship may be granted to students for attending academic meetings or conferences or symposia with the prior approval of the Registrar
  • Every department shall maintain the leave account of each student.
Duration of Examinations:
The majority of examinations have duration of 3 hours. However, examinations may also be set for 2 hrs durations.

Examination Scripts:
Students have the right to view their examination scripts, provided a formal request is made in writing to the Registrar of the institute within 13 weeks of the publication of results.

Examination Regulations
No ID, No Exam! It is mandatory for all students sitting examinations to produce their Student ID card, which is to be placed on their desk for Invigilators to check during examination. Students without their ID card will not be permitted entry to the examination hall, and will be directed to ______________ to obtain an ID card.
Students will not be admitted into the examination hall after the first hour has elapsed.
Student ID cards can initially be obtained free of charge through the Academic Department of NIPER-Hyderabad. There is a fee for lost or replacement cards.

During the examination:
Students will be admitted into the examination hall five minutes prior to the commencement of the examination and must obey the Supervisor's/Invigilator’s instructions throughout the examination.

Unauthorized Material:
Unless otherwise instructed by the Invigilator/Supervisor, all unauthorized materials, i.e. textbooks, notes, etc., and hats and caps must be placed in students' bags. Bags are to be placed outside the examination room or at the front of the venue at the students' own risk.
Mobile phones or any other device (other than an approved calculator) capable of storing text or restricted information must be turned off and placed in students' bags prior to the commencement of the examination. If a student does not have a bag, all unauthorized materials, including mobile phones, must be placed at...................

Students found to be in possession of a mobile phone or any other device (other than an approved calculator) capable of storing text or restricted information will be subject to a fine of ______. A sanction, preventing the student from viewing their academic results or graduating, will be placed on the student's record until the fine is paid.

If unauthorized material is found in the possession of a student during an examination, they could face disciplinary action. "In possession" means on or next to the student's desk or chair, in or on their clothing, on their body, or in their wallet or purse.

General Information:
  • The Supervisor will advise students when they can commence the examination. Students can make notes during the examination in accordance with instructions given on the examination paper.
  • If a student thinks there is an error or omission in the examination paper, they can bring this to the attention of the Supervisor, who will contact the Examination In-charge for clarification.
  • Students requiring additional material should raise a hand until attended to.
  • During the examination, students are not allowed to communicate amongst themselves, or to act in any way that is improper, in an attempt to obtain assistance.
  • Students who have left the examination venue will not be allowed to return unless they have been under approved supervision for the period of their absence (e.g. to go to the toilet).
  • Students may not leave the venue within the first hour or the last 15 minutes of the examination, nor leave the venue at the completion of the examination until advised by the Supervisor.
  • Students must hand in their examination script with their registration number and course details written on it even if they have not completed any of the paper

Results & Transcripts:

Examination Results
Results will be published approximately three weeks after the examination period has ended and will be available through website and Notice Boards.

Academic Transcripts
An Academic Transcript is the official Institute record of a student's results and is printed on NIPER-H Letter Head paper along with attested true copies of all the four semester memos by the Registrar and given in a sealed cover.

A full complimentary Academic Transcript will be forwarded to the Masters students on giving an written application addressing to the Registrar and a payment of a DD for Rs.200 in favour of “NIPER – Hyderabad”

Students who have a sanction or exclusion placed on their record (e.g. outstanding fees, library fines) will not be able to access their results or be provided with an Academic Transcript until they have cleared the sanction or exclusion.

Grading System:
  •  The grade awarded to a student in any particular course will be based on his or her performance in major tests, home assignments, laboratory work, workshop assignments etc.
  • The distribution of the weightage will be decided by the course co-coordinator
  • The letter grades and their equivalent grade points are as indicated in the table below:

Grade Point Average (GPA) = (Number of Credits x Point Grade)

  • For calculating Grade Point Average (GPA) only those courses including projects will be taken into account, in which the student has been awarded one A, B, C, D, I or F Grade.

Supplementary Examinations:

The repetition of examination shall be permitted in theory courses only in the following cases:-

  • A student has to repeat examination in all courses in which he or she has obtained E or F grades.
  • If a student doesn’t get E or F grade (s) in any theory course(s) but scores a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of less than 5.50, he or she can appear in maximum number of two courses to improve the grades
  • In all other cases, a student desirous of improving his or her CGPA shall be permitted to repeat the examination in nor more than two theory courses per semester.
  • Improvement candidates do not have claims for merit award and will be placed in merit below the candidates who cleared in the first attempt.
  • A student would not be entitled to avail more than two repeat examinations in each semester
  • Grade points awarded in the repeat examination shall be final.

Academic Status:

  • The minimum credit requirements for Masters degree shall be 50 valid credits including a minimum of 28 credits of course work and balance credits of project work
  • The minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) required for the award of the degree shall be 6.00. if CGPA is more than 5.50 but below 6.00 in any semester, the candidate may be permitted to continue in the program subject to fulfillment of Repetition of examination.
  • If Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is below 5.50 in any semester, the student shall be permitted to improve his or her CGPA by repeating to a maximum of 2 theory course irrespective of the grade earned.
  • If a student after availing the maximum number of repeat examinations as per the rules, fails to clear the course(s) or fails to secure minimum CGPA shall have to discontinue the programme.
  • The maximum period of completion of the Masters Programme shall be 3 years from the date of joining the programme.

Students wishing to appeal against their academic status must submit an appeal within 20 working days* of the publication of results.

* A Working day is defined as all days Monday to Friday including all State, country and religious observances.
